The Drop-Off

The heavy steel door clicked shut, severing the link to the hallway and trapping us inside a cube no larger than a walk-in closet. Floor-level windows let in the gray afternoon light, but the view was mostly the brick wall of the adjacent building. The twin bed dominated the space, pushed tight against the far wall, leaving barely enough room for a step stool and the mini-fridge humming in the corner. Thin walls meant sound traveled. I could hear the muffled thump of bass from the room next door and the squeak of a shoe rack down the hall. This wasn't just a room; it was a glass house.

Mom stood by the desk, her fingers worrying the tag of a silk blouse. She'd been folding for twenty minutes, methodically erasing the wrinkles from my life. Each garment met its specific quadrant of the dresser: sweaters left, jeans right. She treated the space like a puzzle she was solving before abandoning the board. She ran a hand over the plastic-wrapped duvet, her touch lingering on the bubble wrap as if memorizing the texture. "You'll want the good sheets," she murmured, pointing to a stack in the corner. "The cheap ones pill after a week." She looked up, her eyes searching mine. "You're sure you don't want me to stay? I can sit in the car. Read a book."

Daddy dropped a cardboard box onto the mattress with a dull thud. The sound echoed too loudly against the cinderblock. He didn't look at Mom. His gaze locked onto mine, heavy and assessing. At twenty-five, he moved with a predator's economy of motion, shedding his blazer to reveal a white henley stretched tight across his chest. He rolled up his sleeves, exposing forearms corded with muscle and dusted with dark hair, the veins mapping the terrain of his wrists. He didn't speak. He just stepped into my space, close enough that I caught the scent of sandalwood and the faint, metallic tang of the car.

Mom kissed my forehead, lingering, then gathered her purse. "Be good, you two." The door clicked. Silence rushed back in, pressurized.

Daddy turned to me. The air in the room seemed to thin. "Your mother thinks I'm just chaperone duty," he said, his voice a low rumble that vibrated in my sternum. "She doesn't know I've been counting the miles."

He reached out, his palm cupping the side of my face, his thumb brushing the high bone. "You're mine until I leave."

"I know, Daddy."

He guided me backward until my hips hit the edge of the mattress. I fell back, the thin foam offering no cushion against the box springs. He followed, collapsing over me, but the twin width forced a compromise. He sat up, his spine flush against the cinderblock, a bookshelf at his shoulder to mute the sound of his breath. I climbed between his knees, facing him. The angle was vertical, stacked. My weight rested on his thighs, my hands braced against his chest. It was a position of total exposure, the thin mattress offering no buffer between us, just the direct transfer of heat and muscle.

The proximity to the wall meant our whispers would be absorbed, but the sound of skin slapping skin would carry down the hall. We were elevated, perched on the precipice of the room's limited space.

He didn't rush. He unbuckled his belt, the leather sliding through the loops with a soft *shhh* that sounded like a secret. His fly gave way, and he freed himself, the thick weight of him pressing against my center through the fabric of my skirt. I could feel the pulse in his throat against my sternum, a frantic drumbeat matching the one in my groin.

"Look at me," he commanded. His eyes were wide, dark pools of intent, fixed on mine.

I did. His gaze held me there as he peeled the fabric down, his hands moving with deliberate slowness. When he entered, it was a single, fluid motion. The thin walls amplified the wet sound, a slick friction that seemed to vibrate through the drywall. He gripped my hips, his fingers digging into the softness, anchoring me against the pull of gravity. Every thrust drove us closer to the wall, the metal frame groaning under our combined weight.

A slice of hallway light cut under the door. A rectangle of yellow illumination stretched across the floor. Daddy glanced down, his eyes narrowing. "RA's flashlight." He kept the rhythm, unbroken. The light pulsed as the RA walked back and forth. I focused on his face, on the way his jaw worked, using the visual to anchor me against the sound.

The handle jiggled.

I held my breath, my thighs trembling against his calves. The knob turned slowly. The lock held. We were alone.

The RA's voice boomed, muffled through the plaster. "Just checking the halls. Keep it down."

The footsteps receded. Daddy exhaled, a sharp burst of air against my neck. He didn't slow. If anything, the risk spiked his pace. He drove harder, the bed frame shuddering in time with his thrusts, the metal screeching faintly against the linoleum. I bit my lip, taste of copper in my mouth, my nails digging into his shoulders. The separation of the last months compressed into this tiny room, the long-distance ache turning into a focused burn. He was here. He wasn't leaving yet.

He reached down, his fingers finding the clasp of my bra, working it loose with one hand while the other held my hip steady. He pushed the fabric aside, his mouth closing over my nipple, sucking hard. The sensation made my toes curl. He pulled back, his eyes locking onto mine, a question in his gaze.

"Cum for me, sweetheart," he murmured.

The word hit me like a shock. The shift in tone, the ownership. My body obeyed instantly. The coil in my lower belly snapped, releasing a wave of heat that radiated outward. I squeezed around him, my thighs locking tighter, and he felt it, his grip tightening as he followed me over the edge. He buried himself to the hilt, holding me there, his chest heaving against mine, the heat of his body seeping into my skin.

We stayed like that for a long moment, stacked against the wall, the only sound the mini-fridge and our ragged breathing. The thin walls felt less like a barrier now and more like a membrane, pulsing with the evidence of us.

He slowly withdrew, the friction drawing a soft gasp. He adjusted his clothes, the movement practiced and quick. He stood, smoothing his henley, and looked down at me. The predator was back, but his eyes were softer now.

"Pack your bag, princess," he said, his voice rough. "Mom's Uber is waiting."

I watched him grab his jacket, my heart still hammering against my ribs. The drop-off was over, but the separation had just begun.
