## Chapter 4: The Taking It Off
The silence after the door clicked shut didn’t break; it just pooled around us, heavy and deliberate. I hold the old cotton training bra against my ribs, waiting. He steps into the space, his boots thudding against the hardwood. I lift it. His broad hands guide the cups over my shoulders, his thumbs brushing the small hooks at the front. A soft *snick*. He smooths the thin fabric down, his gaze never leaving mine. The training bra, bought when I was twelve and still learning to stand straight, settles into place. I shift my weight, feeling the familiar stretch of the elastic against my ribs.
"Now take it off me," I say, my voice rougher than I intended, edged with a quiet demand I’ve carried for years. "Like you've imagined doing for years."
He doesn't hesitate. His hands slide up my sides, thumbs resting at the waist before settling on the hooks again. This time, he peels the left cup down, then the right, the fabric sliding over my shoulders with a whisper. He doesn’t rush. He never rushes with me. The movement is deliberate, almost ceremonial, as if he’s peeling back layers of a memory rather than a garment. The simple cotton feels suddenly heavy with history.
It falls to his palms, light as a sigh. He holds it up, examining the faded stitching, the way the elastic has softened but never broken. "You kept it," he murmurs. His voice is low, stripped of pretense. "All this time."
I close the distance. My mouth meets his, tasting coffee grounds and the mint of his afternoon tea, years of quiet restraint dissolving into a single, sharp kiss. His hands slide up my thighs, gripping firm, and then he’s lifting me. I wrap my legs around his waist, my back arching as he carries me to the bed. The mattress dips. I don’t land flat; I settle against the curve of his hips, facing him. The simple cotton garment is gone, but the ritual isn’t over. He laid me down, but the focus remains on the memory woven into those two cups.
He kneels between my knees. His gaze locks onto my chest, not with hunger, but with recognition. He reaches for the hem of my nightgown, but stops. Instead, he presses a kiss to the center of my sternum, right where the bra had sat. Then his fingers find the waistband of my panties, sliding them down with deliberate slowness. The fabric catches on my ankles before pooling at my knees.
The room smells of cedar and old paper. He doesn’t throw me down or pin me. He settles back on his heels, pulling my nightgown over my head, letting it drape across my collarbones. His hands are on my skin now, mapping the familiar terrain with new urgency. His palm flattens against the small of my back, fingers splaying over the delicate ridge of my spine. He pulls me toward him, and I slide forward until our hips meet. The friction is immediate, raw. I guide his hand to my hip, then to my breast, my thumb brushing over the peak. He groans, a low vibration against my collarbone, and leans in. His mouth covers me, not with the frantic pace of strangers, but with the slow, methodical pressure of a man who has memorized every contour. I arch into him, my fingers tangling in his hair, feeling the weight of him settle over me. He doesn’t just kiss; he consumes, his tongue tracing the curve of my nipple while his other hand slides down to my core, finding me already wet, already waiting. The rhythm is unhurried, deliberate. Each stroke of his fingers matches the pulse in my throat. I look down at him—knees on the rug, head bowed, eyes closed—and see the boy who grew into the man, the same hands that taught me to tie my shoes now untying me. I pull him up by the shoulders, pressing him back against the pillows. The shift is mine. I climb over him, straddling his thighs, and settle my weight against him. The bedframe creaks, a familiar sound. I lean forward, bracing my hands on his chest, and take his mouth again. When I guide him inside, it’s a slow, full slide. He exhales against my neck, his hands finding my hips to anchor me. We move together, not frantic, but deep and measured, the simple cotton bra lying on the floor between our legs like a relic. Every thrust pulls a breath from my lips, every retreat draws a groan from his throat. The room fills with the sound of skin against skin, the rustle of sheets, the quiet, synchronized rhythm of two people claiming what was always theirs. I feel the tension coil low in my belly, sharp and bright. He follows, his grip tightening, his breath catching against my shoulder as he spills into me. I ride out the last of it, my forehead resting against his, eyes closed, listening to the steady drum of his heart.
The cotton bra is still on the floor. I don’t look away from it. "It fits now," I whisper. He nods, thumb brushing my cheek. "It always did, sweetheart."
