Chapter 3
The final chord still vibrated in my ribs as the band struck the last note. My cheeks ached from smiling, my feet throbbed inside satin pumps, but my chest swelled with a dizzying, heady pride. Homecoming. Queen. All of it felt like a dream I’d woven myself, stitched together by his steady presence, his approving gaze, his quiet commands that I’d followed to perfection. The crowd cheered, but all I heard was the rush of blood in my ears and the soft rustle of tulle as I slipped out of the ballroom doors. I didn’t look back. I never do. He was waiting right there, leaning against the black sedan like he’d been carved from it, tie loosened, jacket slung over one shoulder. His eyes locked onto mine, dark and full of that familiar, heavy hunger. I walked straight to him, the crowd parting like water, and let him take my hand.
The drive back was quiet, just the hum of the engine and the occasional brush of his knuckles against my thigh. I was still in my gown, the silk clinging to every curve, the crown resting beside me on the passenger seat like a silent testament to the night. He didn’t say much. He didn’t need to. His hand slid higher, just above my knee, thumb tracing slow circles through the thin fabric. I leaned into him, my head resting on his shoulder, breathing in the scent of cedar, expensive cologne, and him. My skin felt too tight, my nerves too raw, my body humming with the aftershocks of being watched, being chosen, being claimed in front of everyone. I was exhausted, yes, but elated, floating on a frequency that only he could tune me to.
He turned into our street, the gravel crunching under the tires as the sedan glided into the driveway. He killed the engine, but neither of us moved. The garage door light cast long shadows across the hood, painting everything in soft gold. I could feel the weight of the crown beside me, the cool air from the open windows, the steady rise and fall of his chest. I didn’t want the night to end. I didn’t want to strip this off, comb my hair back, put on sneakers, and pretend this was just another routine. I wanted it to stretch, to pool, to drown us both in it.
“Come inside with me,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper, but it cut through the quiet like a blade.
He turned his head, those dark eyes catching the porch light. “Your mother’s packing up at Aunt Clara’s. She won’t be back until Sunday.”
“Then we have the house to ourselves.”
A slow smile touched his mouth. “I was hoping you’d say that.”
He stepped out, rounded the car, and opened my door. I slipped out in one fluid motion, the satin whispering against my legs, and followed him to the front door. He used his key, pushed it open, and we stepped into the foyer. The house smelled like vanilla and old wood, quiet and waiting. I kicked off my pumps, leaving them exactly where they fell, and walked straight toward the kitchen. He followed, close behind, his footsteps steady against the hardwood.
I pulled two crystal flutes from the cabinet, uncorked the chilled bottle of champagne, and poured until the golden liquid nearly reached the rim. I carried them back to the living room, where the string lights from the ballroom still twinkled in my hair. He sat on the sofa, legs spread, jacket already off, tie fully undone. I set one glass down and perched on the arm of the sofa, then swung my leg over and settled onto his lap. The silk of my dress pooled around us, cool against his slacks. I wrapped my arms around his neck, feeling the solid warmth of his chest, the steady drum of his pulse.
“For the Homecoming Queen,” I murmured, lifting my glass.
“For you,” he corrected, his voice low, rough with something deeper than pride. He clinked his glass against mine, the sound sharp and sweet in the quiet room. He drank, his eyes never leaving mine, a slow swallow that made my stomach flutter. I took a sip too, the bubbles biting my tongue, sweet and sharp, just like the night.
“Thank you for everything, Daddy,” I said, the words slipping out naturally, heavy with meaning.
He didn’t answer right away. He just set the glass down, one hand sliding to my waist, the other tangling in my hair, tilting my head back just enough. His lips found mine, slow. Deep. It wasn’t hurried. It was deliberate, a claiming, a reconfirmation of everything we’d been building toward. I melted into it, my fingers gripping his shoulders, my thighs pressing closer, the crown finally slipping from my hair to rest forgotten on the coffee table. His mouth moved over mine with practiced ease, sucking, teasing, swallowing my sighs. I opened for him, letting him take what he wanted, and he did.
His hand slid down my back, fingers hooking into the silk at my nape, and with a soft tug, he pulled the dress up, revealing the smooth skin of my shoulders, the curve of my neck. I arched into him, gasping as his lips trailed down to my collarbone, then lower, over the swell of my breast through the thin fabric. I was already wet, already aching, my body remembering his touch before my mind could catch up. He unclasped the hidden row of buttons along my spine, one by one, slow and methodical, letting the silk fall open like a curtain. The cool air hit my skin, followed immediately by the heat of his mouth, his tongue tracing the center of my chest, then lower, over the delicate lace of my slip.
I broke the kiss just long enough to unbutton his shirt, my fingers trembling slightly as I worked the fabric from his shoulders. He let me, watching me with that quiet, intense focus, like I was the only thing in the world that mattered. When his bare chest met mine, I shivered, pressing my palms flat against his skin, feeling the hard muscle, the faint dusting of hair, the steady beat of his heart. He lifted me, just slightly, his hands sliding under my hips, and I wrapped my legs around his waist, the silk pooling around us. He didn’t wait. He guided me back down onto his lap, my back against his chest, and pressed his mouth to the nape of my neck, breathing me in.
“You’re perfect,” he murmured against my skin, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through my ribs. “Exactly where you should be.”
I turned my head, catching his lips again, deeper this time, desperate. His hand slid down my side, over the curve of my hip, fingers hooking into the waistband of my slip. He pulled it down slowly, letting it pool at my thighs, leaving me bare beneath him. I shifted, adjusting my weight, and he followed, his palm pressing flat against my stomach, then lower, over my core. I gasped as his fingers found me, slick and warm, and I arched into his touch, my head falling back against his shoulder. He kissed my jaw, my ear, the sensitive spot just below my earlobe, while his other hand worked the silk from my legs, freeing me completely.
“Tell me what you want,” he said, his voice rough, commanding, but never demanding. Just asking. Because with me, it was always a choice. Always mine to give.
“You,” I breathed, turning in his lap to face him fully, my hands sliding down his chest, over his hips, finding the fastening of his slacks. “All of you. Tonight. Just us.”
He smiled, slow and dark, and helped me push his pants down, the cool air hitting my bare legs as I straddled him. The slip rode up, my thighs pressing against his, and I leaned forward, pressing my chest to his, our mouths meeting again in a slow, burning kiss. I felt him through his trousers, thick and heavy, already hard, already waiting. I shifted, rolling his slacks off, and when he was free, I wrapped my fingers around him, stroking slowly, feeling the weight, the heat, the pulse of him against my palm. He groaned, his hands gripping my hips, his thumbs digging into my skin.
“Look at me,” he said, and I did, my eyes locked onto his, seeing all that quiet intensity, all that unspoken hunger, all that love that never left, even when it grew heavy. He guided me, positioning me, and with one smooth thrust, he was inside me, stretching me, filling me, the perfect fit I’d been craving since I first sat on his lap and let him teach me. I gasped, my head falling back, my nails digging into his shoulders as he set the pace, steady and deep, each movement dragging a moan from my throat. The silk of my dress tangled around us, the crown forgotten, the house around us fading into nothing but the sound of our breathing, the slide of skin, the quiet thud of hearts syncing.
“Mine,” he murmured against my neck, his voice a low claim, a promise, a fact. “Always mine.”
I nodded, pressing my lips to his, tasting myself, tasting him, the night stretching out in front of us, endless and ours.
