Empty Tank

1,214 words · 7 min read

The engine coughs. Dies.

Silence swallows the desert highway.

Midnight. No stars. Just a cracked asphalt ribbon and the skeletal silhouette of a gas station ahead. Neon buzzes like a trapped insect. Flickers. Stutters. My car’s dashboard goes black.

Empty tank. Dead battery. Dead phone.

I press my palms flat against the steering wheel. Breathe. Count. Nothing works. My hands shake. My ribs ache. The desert wind slips through the cracked window, cold and biting.

I’m alone.

The pump hisses. Empty. Useless.

I kick the door open. Boots hit gravel. My legs feel like water. The station looms. Graffiti scars the brick. A rusted pickup idles near the awning. Tires bald. Oil stains the concrete.

Safe? No.

Terrifying? Yes.

But I need help. And the door to the convenience store is propped open.

I step forward. The floor squeaks. The air smells like stale coffee, gasoline, and something darker. Dusty. Unlived-in.

I turn. Need a place to wait. A phone. A mechanic. Anything.

The back door creaks.

Boots hit linoleum. Heavy. Deliberate. Close.

I freeze.

He steps into the fluorescent glare.

Six-three. Broad. Built like a man who works with his hands and never apologizes for it. Worn leather jacket over a faded black tee. Forearms corded with old scars. Jaw rough with a day’s stubble. Hair dark, unruly, falling just over his brow.

Eyes like smoldering flint. Dark. Unyielding. Hungry.

He’s older. Late thirties. Maybe forty. The kind of man whose youth is just a memory. Who knows his worth and carries it like armor.

“You look lost,” he says.

Voice like gravel and whiskey. Deep. Rough. Commanding.

I swallow. Throat dry. “Car died. Tank’s empty. Phone’s dead.”

He doesn’t smile. Doesn’t need to. His gaze drags over me. Slow. Assessing. Possessive.

“Name’s Colt.”

“Maya.”

He steps closer. The heat of him hits me like a physical wall. Sandalwood. Smoke. Clean sweat. Masculine. Overwhelming.

My pulse jumps. Throat tightens.

Something primal stirs low in my belly. A pull. A need I can’t name. A biological recognition. Like my blood already knows him.

“Let me look,” he says.

He doesn’t ask. He tells.

I nod. I don’t trust my voice.

He walks to my car. Opens the hood. Steam hisses. He doesn’t flinch. Just studies the engine like it owes him money.

I watch his hands. Calloused. Strong. Veins mapping thick forearms. They look like they could break me open or put me back together.

“You’re shaking,” he says.

I am. Cold. Fear. Or something else.

“I’m fine,” I lie.

He turns. Steps into my space. One hand braces against the fender. The other cups my chin. Rough thumb strokes my lower lip.

I gasp. Back arches. Heat floods my core.

“You’re not fine,” he murmurs. “You’re trembling. You’re scared.”

“I’m not,” I whisper.

He studies me. Eyes darkening. Throat working.

“Good,” he says. “Because you’re safe now.”

The word hits me like a struck match. Safe. Claimed. Guarded.

My knees weaken. I sway. He catches me. Arm around my waist. Solid. Unmoving.

I lean into him. Breathe him in. Let his weight ground me.

“Daddy,” I whisper.

The word slips out before I catch it. Soft. Accidental. Instinctual.

His jaw tightens. Eyes flash. Something fierce and ancient ignites in his gaze.

“What did you call me?”

“Nothing. I just—” I stop. Heat floods my cheeks. “I’m scared. And you’re… you.”

He steps closer. One hand slides down my spine. Fingers dip below my waistband. Presses against my lower back.

“You need this,” he says. Voice drops. Low. Possessive. “You need me to take care of you.”

My belly tightens. That same pull returns. Stronger. Biological. Insistent.

“I don’t even know you,” I whisper.

“You know what I am,” he says. “Protector. Provider. Owner.”

The word lands like a brand. *Owner*.

My breath hitches. My core clench. Wetness beads. Soaks through my jeans.

He smells it. I know he does. His nostrils flare. Eyes drop to my chest. Rise to mine.

“Fuck,” he breathes.

“Colt—”

“You’re trembling.”

“I’m wet.”

He groans. Low. Rough. Satisfied.

“Good girl,” he murmurs. “Let me take care of you. All of you.”

My head spins. Body sings. That pull in my belly flares like a struck match.

“Please,” I breathe.

He doesn’t hesitate.

Fingers hook in my waistband. Shove jeans down. Kick them away.

I’m bare. Exposed. Shaking.

He stares. Jaw works. Throat bobs.

“Fuck,” he breathes. “So wet. So fucking perfect.”

His hand slides down. Fingers part me. Press. Circle.

I sob. Back hits the counter. Hips lift.

“Look at me,” he orders.

I do. Eyes locked. Breath ragged.

“You’re made for me,” he growls. “Every inch. Every drop. I’m filling you. Claiming you. Carrying my name.”

My body knows. Answers. Clenching. Throbbing. Begging.

“Yes,” I whisper. “Please.”

He curses. Lifts me. Sets me on the counter. Coffee cups rattle. He steps between my knees.

Jacket hits the floor. Shirt follows.

Chest hits mine. Hard. Scarred. Massive.

I gasp. Fingers dig into his shoulders.

“You’re so fucking pretty,” he growls. “So tight. So ready.”

His hand slides under my sweater. Over my ribs. Palms my breast. Thumb flicks my nipple.

I cry out. Back arches. Wetness soaks through my panties.

He doesn’t wait. Fingers hook in my waistband. Shove them down.

I’m bare. Completely.

He stares. Eyes dark. Throat bobs.

“Fuck,” he breathes. “So fucking perfect.”

His hand slides between my legs. Fingers part me. Press. Circle.

I sob. Hips lift. Back arches.

“You take me in,” he says. “Everywhere. I’m breeding you. Marking you. Making you mine.”

The words hit my core like a live wire. My body shudders. Clenching. Throbbing. Begging.

“Yes,” I whisper. “Do it. Use me. Breed me.”

He curses. Lifts me. Spreads my legs wider. Hooks one around his waist.

I’m pinned. Claimed. His.

He lines up. Presses in.

Heat. Pressure. Fullness.

I gasp. Eyes roll back. Tears prick.

“Breathe,” he commands. “Take it all.”

I do. He drives in. Deep. Hard. Relentless.

My head falls back. Mouth opens. Moans spill out raw and ragged.

He grunts. Hips snap. Rhythm takes over.

“Mine,” he growls. “All mine.”

I clutch his shoulders. Nails dig in. Blood wells. He doesn’t care.

“Colt—please—”

“You’re taking it,” he says. “Every inch. I’m planting my seed. Making you mine. Forever.”

My body shatters. Clenches around him. Waves crash.

He roars. Hips lock. Drives deep.

Hot. Thick. Pouring.

I scream. Back arches. Legs shake.

He holds me through it. Groans. Buries his face in my neck.

“Fuck,” he breathes. “So good. So fucking perfect.”

He doesn’t pull out. Keeps me pinned. Keeps me full.

“You’re carrying it,” he murmurs against my skin. “My mark. My blood. My legacy.”

I nod. Slow. Dazed. Overwhelmed.

“Yes,” I whisper. “I’m yours.”

He lifts me. Carries me to the cot. Lays me down. Covers me with his weight.

Kisses me. Slow. Deep. Claiming.

“Sleep,” he orders. “I’ll guard you. Always.”

I melt into him. Safe. Filled. Claimed.

My belly tightens. Warm. Heavy. Alive.

I’m his.

And I’m carrying him.
