The Inheritance

I stare at the plastic stick on the bathroom counter. Two pink lines. Bold. Unmistakable. Real.

My breath catches. My stomach drops. My pulse roars in my ears.

I’m pregnant.

His child. Growing inside me. Already changing my body. Already claiming me in ways I never saw coming.

The door opens. I don’t jump. I know his footsteps. Heavy. Deliberate. Unhurried.

He fills the doorway. Dressed in black slacks and a white shirt that stretches across his broad chest. His tie is loose. His jaw is set. His eyes lock onto mine like a predator who just found his prey.

“You’re crying,” he says. His voice is rough. Low. The kind that vibrates straight through my ribs.

I wipe my cheek. My hands shake. “I am.”

He steps inside. The door clicks shut behind him. He doesn’t take his eyes off me. He never does. Not since the auction. Not since I let him buy me. Not since he filled me up and made me his.

He crosses the room in three strides. His large hand cups my face. His thumb brushes over my lower lip. His touch is warm. Possessive. Familiar.

“What’s wrong, baby girl?” he asks.

I hand him the test. He takes it. He looks at it. He looks at me. His expression doesn’t change. But his chest rises. His fingers tighten. Just slightly.

“You’re carrying my son or my daughter,” he says. Not a question. A statement. A fact carved in stone.

“I’m pregnant,” I whisper.

He pulls me against his chest. His arms wrap around me like iron bands. He buries his face in my hair. I feel his heart hammering against my ribs. I feel his breath hitch. Just once.

Then he steps back. He walks to the desk by the window. He picks up a thick manila envelope. The auction contract. The paper that turned me into his. The paper that was supposed to end at midnight.

He holds it in both hands.

I brace myself. I expect him to hand it back. To tell me it’s over. To let me walk away with the money and the memory.

He tears it in half.

The sound is sharp. Clean. Final.

He drops the pieces on the floor. He steps on them. Crushes them under his boot.

Then he reaches into his jacket. He pulls out a slim folder. Embossed. Official. Blue and gold.

He places it in my hands. My fingers tremble as I open it.

A marriage license.

His name. My name. Signed. Sealed. Ready for a judge’s stamp.

I look up. My vision is blurry. My chest is tight. My throat closes.

He watches me. His eyes are dark. Swollen. Uncharacteristically soft.

He steps close. He cups my face again. His thumbs trace my cheekbones.

“You were the best purchase I ever made, baby girl,” he says. His voice is gravel and velvet. “Now you’re my wife and the mother of my child.”

The words hit me like a physical blow. Not painful. Overwhelming. Complete.

I melt. I sink into him. My hands grip his shirt. My knees buckle. He catches me. Always catches me.

“Say yes,” he murmurs against my mouth. “Say yes and I’ll give you everything. Every day. Every night. Forever.”

I don’t hesitate. “Yes.”

His mouth crashes onto mine. Hungry. Desperate. Claiming.

He lifts me. I wrap my legs around his waist. He carries me to the bed. Drops me onto the silk sheets. He follows me down. His weight is heavy. Perfect. Right.

He tears my clothes off. Fast. Rough. No hesitation. He knows my body like he wrote it. He knows every sigh. Every shiver. Every secret place that makes me break.

He pushes inside me without warning. No foreplay. Just him. All of him. Stretching me. Filling me. Marking me.

I gasp. My back arches. My fingers dig into his shoulders.

“Mine,” he growls. “You’re mine. The baby’s mine. We’re bound now. No going back. No running. You carry my blood. You wear my ring. You live in my house. You belong to me.”

“I’m already yours,” I choke out.

He groans. His hips snap forward. Deeper. Harder. He hits that spot. The one that makes me see stars. The one that makes me beg.

I do. “Please. Daddy. Please.”

The word leaves my lips and his control fractures. He drives into me like a man possessed. Like a man who’s waited a lifetime to finally have what’s his. His hands grip my thighs. He spreads me wider. He takes me deeper.

I feel him pulse. Feel him claim. Feel him plant his seed right where it belongs.

“Gonna breed you so hard you’ll feel me for weeks,” he rasps against my neck. His teeth graze my skin. His tongue soothes the bite. “Gonna fill you up. Gonna make you swell with my heir. You’ll never forget who made you. Who kept you. Who loved you from the first second you looked at me.”

I cry out. My nails rake down his back. My hips meet his thrusts. I need it. I need all of it. The pain. The pleasure. The possession. The promise.

He flips me onto my stomach. He pins my wrists. He enters me from behind. Hard. Unrelenting. His chest presses against my back. His arm bands around my waist. He pulls me back onto him with every thrust.

I’m dripping. I’m shaking. I’m his.

“Look at me,” he commands.

I turn my head. I meet his eyes. Dark. Burning. Devoted.

“Say it,” he demands.

“I’m yours,” I sob. “I’m your wife. I’m carrying your baby. I’m never leaving.”

He growls. His pace becomes erratic. Desperate. He buries his face in my hair. His breathing turns ragged.

“Then take it,” he snaps. “Take my ring. Take my name. Take my child. Take my life. I’m not letting you go. Not today. Not ever.”

He slams into me one last time. Deep. All the way. He holds himself there. His body goes rigid. His release crashes over him. I feel every hot pulse. Every claim. Every drop of him flooding my core.

I follow him over the edge. My orgasm rips through me. Violent. Shattering. Pure. I scream his name. I clench around him. I melt into the sheets.

He stays inside me. Long. Heavy. Warm. His breath evens out. His arm tightens around me. He presses a kiss to my shoulder. Another to my neck. Another to my hair.

I don’t move. I don’t want to. I’m full. I’m claimed. I’m home.

His fingers trace the wedding band he slid onto my finger while I was still coming down from the high. It fits perfectly. Like it was forged for me.

He turns me onto my back. He brushes my hair from my face. His thumb traces my bottom lip. His eyes search mine. Soft. Sincere. Unbreakable.

“You’re sure?” he asks. Quietly. Carefully. The same man who just tore me apart in the most beautiful way is now asking permission like I’m made of glass.

I smile. Tears still wet my cheeks. My body still aches. My heart is completely full.

“I’ve been sure since you walked into that auction,” I say. “Since you looked at me. Since you decided I was worth more than money.”

He exhales. A shaky sound. A release. He leans down. He kisses me. Slow. Sweet. Devotional.

“Then we do this right,” he murmurs. “We get married tomorrow. I’ll call the judge. I’ll handle the press. I’ll shut down the auction house myself if I have to. No one touches you. No one looks at you. You’re protected. You’re loved. You’re carrying my future.”

“I don’t need protection,” I whisper. “I just need you.”

He stills. His eyes darken. His jaw tightens.

“I’ll give you the world,” he says. “Starting with my name. My bed. My heart. My child.”

He shifts his weight. He presses his palm flat against my lower belly. His touch is gentle. Reverent.

“You’re growing already,” he says. “I can feel it. I’m already talking to you. Already planning. Already loving you.”

I cover his hand with mine. My stomach feels different. Lighter. Stronger. Happier.

“I love you,” I say. The words aren’t new. But they’re final. Complete. “I’ve loved you since the moment you bid on me.”

He closes his eyes. A single tear escapes. He doesn’t wipe it away. He lets it fall.

“Good,” he says. His voice breaks. “Because I’m never letting you go. Not in this life. Not in the next. You’re mine. Forever.”

He pulls the sheets over us. He tucks me against his chest. He holds me like I’m the only thing keeping him alive.

I listen to his heartbeat. Steady. Strong. Unshaken.

I think about the contract on the floor. Shredded. Useless. Forgotten.

I think about the marriage license in my hand. Official. Binding. Real.

I think about the life we’re building. The child growing inside me. The husband beside me. The future waiting.

I’m pregnant. I’m married. I’m loved.

And I’m never leaving.

He presses a kiss to my forehead. His arm tightens. His breathing slows.

“Sleep, baby girl,” he murmurs. “I’ve got you. I’ve always got you.”

I close my eyes. My hand rests over his. My stomach over ours.

The inheritance isn’t money. It’s not property. It’s not power.

It’s him. It’s us. It’s the life we’re making.

And it’s more than enough.
