The air in the private tasting room was thick, not just with the residual humidity of the cellar but with a tension that had been building for hours, coiling tighter with every sip of the vintage 2018 Cabernet we’d shared. The exclusive vineyard estate, perched high on the rolling hills of Napa Valley, was finally settling into its post-event lull. Most of the guests had drifted away, their laughter fading into the distance as they huddled in small clusters, clutching their half-empty glasses and exchanging pleasantries about the harvest.
