The air on the rooftop was thick, heavy with the scent of expensive perfume, salt from the nearby ocean, and the metallic tang of anticipation. Below us, the city sprawled out like a circuit board of gold and white, a thousand lights blinking in the distance, but up here, in the private cabana of the luxury hotel, the world had shrunk down to the size of the plush white rug beneath my knees and the broad expanse of his back waiting for me.
